Stones and Their Properties

Ancient Scriptures around the world have appraised gems as powerful agents of energy that influence human fate and destiny.  These wonderfully potent and mysterious creations of the Mother earth are said to induce good energy and expel the negative energy that can cause sickness and suffering.  Gems are reputed to bring peace, prosperity and happiness, and offer protection and healing.  Their beauty is uplifting and life enhancing.

Agate- A variety of chalcedony.  Tones and strengthens body and mind.  Imparts a sense of courage and strength.  Helps one to discern truth and accept circumstances.  Grounding and energizing.  Powerful healer.  Works with chakras according to the color of the stone.

Abalone- A type of Sea Mollusk with an oval shaped shell. The Mother of Pearl (the material secreted in the making of a pearl) is most beautiful and iridescent in this type of Mollusk. The shell itself becomes coated with Mother of Pearl substance. Pearl symbolizes purity, the feminine and nurturance.

Amber- Fossilized sap from prehistoric pine trees. Great healing and soothing properties. Positive influences on heart, spleen and endocrine system. Has been used as a renewal of marriage vows and to assure promises.  Stimulates the intellect and crown chakra.

Amethyst- A variety of quartz.  Strengthens endocrine and immune systems.  Enhances right brain activity and pineal and pituitary glands.  Purification and regeneration.  Transmutes one’s lower nature into higher potentials.  Alchemy and transformation.  Cuts through illusion.  Known to help one overcome addictions. Carnelian- A variety of chalcedony.  A highly evolved mineral healer.  Energizes blood. Aids kidneys, lungs, liver, gallbladder, and pancreas.  Aids tissue regeneration. Vitalizing.  Enhances attunement with inner self.  Facilitates concentration.  Opens the heart.  Warming, social, joyous.  2nd, 3rd, and 4th chakras. Known for it’s healing qualities.

Calcite- Is an energy amplifier. It helps the mind to remember information and the body to remember the state of perfection in the face of disease. Placing the appropriate color of Calcite over the matching chakra center can not only clear that center but can initiate a clearing of all centers. Chalcedony- A member of the quartz family.  Balances energy of body, mind, spirit, and emotions.  Symbolizes benevolence and good will.  Minimizes hostilities, irritability and melancholy.  Improves generosity, responsiveness and receptivity.  Increases mental stability.

Coral- Helps one to become in harmony with the natural forces of the universe and the wilderness within ones own being. Protects one from depression. Treats disorders of the kidneys, bladder and parathyroid.    For environmental reasons we never use new coral.

Emerald-  A variety of beryl.  Strengthens heart, liver, kidneys, immune system, and nervous system.  Enhances dreams, meditation, and deeper spiritual insight.  Prosperity, love, kindness, tranquility, balance, healing, patience.  Strong emotional balancer.  3rd and 4th chakras.  Related to the planet Mercury and recommended especially for doctors, diplomats, astrologers, teachers, business people, writers, intellectuals, and artists. Mother of Pearl- Is the substance secreted when a foreign object enters the mollusk, creating pearls and coating the top inside of the shell. It represents the ability of taking adversity and making the most out of it. It has protective nurturing and creative qualities.

Onyx- A variety of chalcedony.  Relieves stress.  Balance male/female polarities.  Strengthens bone marrow.  Aids detachment.  Enhances emotional balance and self-control.  Higher inspiration.  Works with chakras according to the color of the stone.

Opaline Glass- Is a decorative style glass made in France from 1800 to the 1890s. The glass is opaque or slightly translucent. The primary influence on this style of glass was Venetian milk glass. The popularity of Opaline glass began during the reign of Napolean. All Opaline glass is hand-blown and can appear in white or brightly colored shades of green, blue, pink, black, lavender and yellow.

White Gold– Is an alloy. Mixing zinc and two other metals to make the color “seem” white. The higher the percentage of Gold in white gold the less white it can be.   i.e. 14K has more room to mix the white metals in whereas 18K has less. While in yellow gold the higher the karat, the softer the gold, in white gold 14K is softer.

Zircon- Often called Jacinth is considered important for those undergoing long travels as it is supposed to protect the wearer from lightning, bodily harm and illness. Hindu Astrology considers white Zircon a secondary gem of Libra and Taurus. Zircon is a beautiful stone with lots of sparkle and energy. It is found naturally in many colors. Unfortunately because it is often confused with zirconium, it is often overlooked and under appreciated.

Zirconium- Is a completely synthetic material. You can get very high end Zirconium. However, it is true that nothing lasts longer than a diamond.
